A Tafara man got what he bargained for after he was arrested for allegedly tearing up election campaign posters for Zanu-PF parliamentary candidate for Mabvuku-Tafara constituency Mr Godwills Masimirembwa.

Andrew Makumbe (40) a self-employed electrician was allegedly caught while tearing the posters which were pasted at Murapa Complex where he operates from.

Makumbe yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Anita Tshuma facing charges of "destruction of political posters." He was remanded out of custody on US$50 bail to today for trial.

As part of his bail conditions, Makumbe was ordered not to interfere with state witnesses and to reside at his given address until the matter is finalised. Prosecutor Miss Sharon Mashavira told the court that on July 5 this year at around 5pm, Makumbe was seen by Richard Uda tearing Cde Masimirembwa's posters near his work place.

After tearing the posters, it is alleged, Makumbe threw them to the ground.

It is the State's case that Uda apprehended him and took him to the police where he made a report, leading to Makumbe's arrest. The torn posters will be produced in court as exhibits, it is alleged.
