Two in court for stealing Zanu-PF regalia

Two Beatrice men who were offered a lift by Home Affairs co-Minister Kembo Mohadi's driver along Harare-Masvingo Road and stole 46 various Zanu-PF party regalia were on Friday spared a jail term.
The stolen clothes were valued at US$306.
Mandla Bhebhe (42) and his accomplice Tawanda Chitadure (32) both of Maspleen Farm in Beatrice, was on July 18 at a bus stop along Harare-Masvingo Road in Beatrice waiting for transport.
It was at that time that Samson Siziba (39) employed by Easy Access Private Company arrived driving a Mazda BT50.
In the vehicle, were 46 various Zanu-PF regalia with an inscription of the face of Minister Mohadi being transported to Beitbridge.
Upon seeing the stranded pair Siziba stopped the vehicle and offered them a lift to Mombe Store in the same area.
They boarded at the back of the truck where the T-shirts were stashed in a plastic bag.
The court heard that as the pair was about 500 metres away from their destination, they opened the tent and dropped the T-shirts on the ground.
After that, they disembarked from the vehicle and Siziba did not notice the two stealing.
However, the two ran out of luck after Siziba stopped in Chivhu to check on his package and picked a cellphone dropped by one of them.
Siziba reported the matter to the police leading to the duo's arrest.
The duo told the court that they committed the offence due to their love for President Mugabe.
"We love President Robert Mugabe and when we saw the T-shirts with his face printed on them, we stole them since we wanted to wear them," they said.
Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo was not convinced by their response.
