'It feels like we are in 1980 where we've reclaimed our independence' says Zanu-PF

Zimbabwe's Zanu-PF party has dismissed the Movement for Democratic Change's vote rigging allegations as nonsensical and "absolute hogwash".
Speaking in an interview with SABC, a spokesperson for Zanu-PF Psychology Maziwisa said the just ended general polls were the most credible elections to be held on the African continent.
"You don't judge an election using perfection as a standard. You've got to look at circumstances objectively and I think if you look at the situation here, what prevailed on July 31st, if you look at it objectively, I think you can only come to one conclusion and that is that we had an election that was free, that was fair, that was credible. In fact this could very well be the freest, the fairest and the most credible election to be held on the African continent," said Maziwisa.
As the votes continued to be tallied, Maziwisa predicted more than two thirds representation in parliament for Zanu-PF.
"It looks like we will surpass the two thirds majority in parliament. The feeling, the environment in Zimbabwe right now is one of excitement. It feels like we are in 1980 where we've reclaimed our independence, our sovereignty as a nation. We look forward to chatting the best way for the people of Zimbabwe," said Maziwisa.
Morgan Tsvangirai who was the the main challenger to Zimbabwe's long-time president, Robert Mugabe, said on Thursday that the just ended polls were manipulated and did not meet regional or African election standards.
Tsvangirai branded the election as a "sham" and declared it "null and void".
But Maziwisa maintained his party had won "resoundingly and convincingly".
"What else did you expect the MDC to say? They wasted their time in the coalition government over the last four years engaging in corrupt tendencies, abusing public funds for private purposes, you know Morgan Tsvangirai saying he is a very humble guy but meanwhile he was living lavishly, staying in a $4m mansion house," said Maziwisa.
