ZANU-PF has warned errant youths in who go around the city troubling business people and forcing them to fork out money in exchange for protection.

Bulawayo provincial chairman Professor Callistus Ndlovu said Zanu-PF does not condone illicit behavior and warned that any party member who will be implicated in such dealings will be dealt with.

"We have been informed that there are certain individuals who move around the city collecting money from business people using the name of the party.

"Zanu-PF wishes to inform the public that they should double check's if people are Zanu PF Bona Fide members," he said.

Prof Ndlovu also warned party members to stay away from such extortionist behavior.

"Any member of the party found engaging in such extortionist behavior will be subjected to severe party discipline. Members of the party have in the past been warned against distorting the Government's indigenisation programme by going about harassing the business community as if they have the authority of Government to do so," he said.

He said Zanu-PF was a party for all people and would not tolerate any attempts to victimise anyone on the basis of racial or political affiliation.

There have been reports that some youths, who claimed to be members of Zanu-PF, have been moving around the city collecting what they termed "protection fees" of up to $500 per week from some city businesses.
