Mutambara says economic development a priority

Deputy Prime Minister Professor Arthur Mutambara says it is time for Africa to concentrate on economic development and liberation through regional economic integration following the attainment of independence by the continent.
Wednesday the 25th of this month, the African continent commemorates 48 years of the creation of the Organisation of African Unity, now called the Africa Union.
Diplomats in Harare have in conjunction with the Ministry of Education Sport and Culture, organised a reception and cultural performance at a local hotel to mark the day.
In an interview with the ZBC on the eve of Africa Day, Deputy Prime Minister Mutambara stressed the major role that African regional groups like COMESA, SADC , the East African community and others have in creating an Africa that is strong enough to face global economic competition in the 21st century.
Professor Mutambara said it is also important for Africans to remain united in defence of their continent's interests, adding that the continent should not wait for outsiders to resolve African issues.
Tanzanian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Adadi Rajabu spoke about the arrangements for the commemoration and called on African leaders to pull together in the face of new challenges facing the continent.
Mozambican Embassy Minister Counsellor Isac Massamby, hailed the progress that Africa has made since the days of the organisation of African unity to date and stressed the need to alleviate poverty on the continent.
