The Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Rugare Gumbo, says Zanu-PF has approved the appointment of former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, Dr Gideon Gono, as Senator for Buhera to replace the late Kumbirai Manyika Kangai.
Kangai died on the 25th of August 2013 after being elected Senator and according to the provisions of the country's constitution, his party Zanu-PF is empowered to choose his replacement.
Gumbo said Dr Gono's appointment follows submissions by the Zanu-PF Manicaland Province leadership in recognition of his works as governor of the central bank mainly on empowerment of communal farmers through the agriculture mechanisation programme.
Dr Gono served as the RBZ Governor for two five-year terms beginning on the 1st of December 2003 and ending on the 30th of November this year.
