Zanu-PF candidates to keep their campaign vehicles

ZANU-PF candidates who won the 31 July parliamentary elections will keep their campaign vehicles with Government set to pick up the tab while losing candidates will pay for themselves, a senior official said yesterday.

In a statement, the party's National Chairman, Simon Khaya Moyo, said: "The Politburo's position on this matter is very clear. Those party candidates who won the election and are now members of Parliament (MPs) can keep their cars whilst payment arrangements are being finalised with Parliament, their employer".

He added: "Those who lost in the election indeed also contributed to the party's massive win and must produce their payment plans for the said cars to the party's secretary for transport and social welfare, Nicholas Goche.

"Those who lost and are without means to pay for the cars must return the same to their provincial headquarters soonest. I hope this statement clarifies the position once and for all."

Khaya Moyo is chairman of the Politburo AD-Hoc Committee responsible for the campaign vehicles that were allocated to the then Zanu-PF party candidates in the run up to July harmonised elections.

There has been speculation over the use of the vehicles after the poll as members feared losing them.
