Zanu-PF Mazowe North legislator Edgar Chidavaenzi has called for the recently exposed outrageous salaries earned by top management at state institutions to be classified as criminal sabotage to the national economy.

Recent reports revealed that Premier Medical Aid Society (PSMAS) group chief executive officer (now retired) was earning $230 000 per month while suspended Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation chief executive officer Happison Muchechetere was taking home $40 000.

Chidavaenzi said he was in support on President Robert Mugabe's zero tolerance on corruption urging ministers to be on the forefront in nipping the rot at the parastatals.

"It is of paramount importance that we identify corruption gate-keepers and the Executive removes them from institutions so that we can create a conducive environment for investment and economic growth," Chidavaenzi said.

"Ministers must be at the forefront of fighting corruption and all its evils."

Chidavaenzi said government should formulate consistent policies that investors are well informed before injecting their money in the country.

"I totally support the President's call for zero tolerance to corruption in all its forms and norms and implore this House to demand thorough investigations into the operations of parastatals, government-affiliated and government-supported institutions so as to uproot all malpractices and policies that contribute to the perennial failures and put in place new strategies, policies and framework that are development friendly," said the legislator. .

"We hail Government for taking stern measures against corrupt people, especially in parastatals. These people have been doing this and yet, at the same time, they tarnish the image of the Party and the Government.

"A situation where one Chief Executive Officer is paid more than what 300 legislators and 100 senators receive in a month, demands to say the least, to be redefined as criminal sabotage to the national economy."
