Zimbabwe has received a $23.3 million grant from China to construct clinics and schools in newly resettled areas acquired during the land reform program.

Speaking at the signing ceremony this afternoon, Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa said the grant will ensure that the newly resettled communities living on land acquired under the Land Reform Program have access to health facilities.

Chinamasa said the grant is a direct result of his recent productive visit to China. He said the two governments are working towards the conclusion of a comprehensive financial package which is expected within the next three months.

Chinamasa hailed China for its continued support to Zimbabwe in various forms which include sizable chunk of grants, interest free and concessional loans. He urged the Chinese government to support ZimAsset.

The Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Lin Lin, said the grant was a testimony of the strong ties that exist between the two countries

"The Chinese government and its people have always helped Zimbabwe in building their homeland, developing the economy, improving people's living standards, reducing poverty and fighting natural disasters.

"This grant is arranged in a special way from the extra-budgetary sources by the Chinese government. This donation symbolizes goodwill from the Chinese government to support the economic development and recovery of Zimbabwe," he said.
