A 25-YEAR-OLD Chiweshe woman, Maria Goche, appeared at the High Court on Monday charged with fatally striking her husband's younger brother with a brick on the head following a misunderstanding over an undisclosed debt.
Justice Garainesu Mawadze heard that Lukas Zarira of Chiunda Village, chief Negomo in Chiweshe succumbed to injuries on March 27, 2012.
The court heard that after striking Zarira with a home-made standard brick, Goche allegedly teamed up with other villagers and took him to Dambo Clinic where they made a false report that the victim had fallen and injured himself by the doorstep.
As if that was not enough, Zarira's relatives at Zivanai homestead are said to have prepared burial without the involvement of the police in order to protect Goche, but the plan was scuttled after a whistleblower alerted the police through an anonymous letter dropped at Gweshe Police Base.
Part of the letter read: "Officer, there is a person who was struck with a brick and died. He is about to be buried."
After reading the note, police stormed Zivanai Zarira's homestead and discovered that the deceased's head had been surtured.
Police investigations revealed that Zarira was fatally struck by Goche following a misunderstanding.
Zarira's sister-in-law, Patience Muzenje, told the police in her statement that she was present when the incident happened.
However, Goche through her lawyer Innocent Chingarande, has denied the charge.
