President Mugabe has given very stern warning to any would be protesters who would dare try to involve in any protests against his government.
Speaking amidst cheers of predominantly ZANU PF supporters at the National Stadium to mark 34 years of independence today, Mugabe warned that he may be 90 years old but his feast is 90 tonnes and will not hesitate to use it. Mugabe's warning comes in the wake of protests being planned by the MDC T youth in demand for jobs promised in the ZANU PF 2013 election manifesto.
"..but if people are going to go out merely to create violence because they are being instigated....then they are mistaken in their belief. They must look at us and look at our history," he said. "If they see our silence and forget who we are and believe we are now dormant, we will make them dormant. I may be 90 years old but you see this fist of mine, its 90 tonnes and I will not hesitate to use it. My army is my fist and we will deal with you," added Mugabe.
Speaking at a rally in Harare last week Tsvangirai told his party supporters to brace themselves for mass protests against the ZANU PF government. MDC T returnee and former MDC 99 leader Job Sikhala has also been calling on MDC T supporters to prepare for violent or mass actions to force for government change in the country leading to his being summoned to the Harare Central Police to explain some of his statements.
The Zimbabwean army and police is well known the world over for its impunity when it comes to handling public protests against Mugabe's government. Zimbabweans have generally given up on any protests against Mugabe since the mid nineties when ZCTU protests were brutally closed off by the military and the police. Mugabe's warning is certainly not going to be taken likely by any average Zimbabwean.
