Zanu-PF official dies

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Killian Mupingo has died.

Mupingo who was 53, died on Wednesday at Makoni Rural District Hospital after a long battle with cancer.

A family spokesperson, Joseph Kabangaradza said the death of Mupingo is a huge blow to the family

The late Mupingo's  only son Tafadzwa said the family is still trying to come to terms with the death.

Meanwhile, the Office of the President and Cabinet has sent a message of condolences to Mrs Mupingo and the Mupingo family.

In his message, the Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda, said Mupingo became one of the youngest permanent secretaries to head the strategic ministry, testifying President Robert Mugabe's confidence in his ability to discharge the difficult responsibility, in service to his country and people.

Mr Mupingo served as district administrator in various districts, as Provincial Administrator for Manicaland province and Director in the same ministry where he distinguished himself as a highly committed and astute administrator.

During the crafting and implementation of the ZIMASSET blueprint, Mupingo was appointed co-chair of the Social Services and Poverty Eradication cluster, where he again proved to be a committed, resourceful and hardworking senior government officer.

He will be buried at Shiri Farm outside Rusape on Sunday.

Mupingo is survived by his wife Mavis and two children, Tafadzwa and Barbara.

Mourners are gathered at Number 15, Van Praagh Avenue, Milton Park, Harare.
