Zanu founder member dies

Nationalist and Zanu founder member, Washington Malianga has died.
He was 88.
Malianga died at No. 22 Alberry Court, Josiah Chinamano Road in Harare on Sunday, 22 June 2014.
In a statement, the Zanu-PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Rugare Gumbo said the revolutionary party has learnt with deep sorrow the tragic passing on the Malianga, who has been a leading nationalist and founding member of the Revolutionary Council from its very inception.
He said the deceased played a pivotal role during the formation of the Zimbabwe National Liberation Army (ZANLA), the military wing of ZANU in which he was the Secretary of Publicity and Information.
Malianga was also the member of the Dare Re Chimurenga up to a point when he was constrained by health issues.
At the formation of ZANU in August 1963, he was amongst the founder members and was elected the Party's Publicity Secretary at the Gwelo Congress of 21-23 May 1964.
He is survived by his brothers, Morton, Quinton and Fungai.
Mourners are gathered at No. 35 Stratford Drive, Greystone Park in Borrowdale.
Burial arrangements will be announced in due course.
