Sakupwanya declared national hero

Veteran nationalist and Zanu-PF politburo member, Retired Colonel Stanley Urayayi Sakupwanya, who died on Tuesday at Parirenyatwa Hospital, has been declared a national hero.
Zanu-PF politburo member, Dr Sydney Sekeramayi who was representing the party's Secretary for Administration, Didymus Mutasa, conveyed the hero status bestowed on Sakupwanya to his family at their residence in Highlands, Harare.
Zanu-PF politburo member and National Chairman, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo described the veteran nationalist, as a humble person who wanted to see the downtrodden recognised.
Sakupwanya, a long standing member of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU), was born in Bulawayo in 1939.
He is survived by 11 children and 15 grandchildren.
Mourners are gathered at Number 11 Pevensey Road in Highlands.
Burial will be on Sunday at the National Heroes Acre.
