PLUMTREE - Zanu PF national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo said the party would make good on its electoral promises of growing the economy and creating two million jobs by 2018, during the commissioning and handover of Plumtree Water Works on Thursday,
The Zanu PF national chairman sentiments come at a time the nation is facing a liquidity crunch that has seen many failing to send their children to school nor pay for healthcare, let alone feed.
Government is not only failing to pay its workers but has also failed to guarantee them pay dates.
The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) says at least 300 people are retrenched each week while unemployment rate is hovering above 80 percent.
"We are not liars, we tell the truth," said Khaya Moyo adding; "We do as we say, we are a responsible government. A government by the people for the people and with the people."
When the Daily News sought comment from Khaya Moyo to justify his claims, he simply said: "Under sanctions we are doing very well," before getting in his car and driving off.
The statement by the Zanu PF senior official comes at a time President Robert Mugabe has been lambasted from many quarters after he made shocking assertions that the economy was recovering at a time when all indicators show that the economy is on its knees.
During his address, Khaya Moyo urged the gathering to celebrate with Zanu PF in marking the anniversary of their electoral victory because they had a fruitful one year marked by quality governance unlike during the tenure of the inclusive government.
With the biting liquidity crunch weighing heavily on the economy, analysts have cast aspersions on the Mugabe-led party's competence to revive an ailing economy.
