Zanu-PF is not the only ruling party in the world that is battling to meet its election promises, a party official has said.
Deputy director of information and publicity, Psychology Maziwisa, told a public discussion on Thursday in Harare, reflecting on one year of Zanu-PF's rule, against its promises that even advanced nations such as the US were battling to fulfil their electoral promises.
"Those who read will agree with me that from a survey done in the United States, (Barack) Obama is the least popular president in the history of the country."
"Obama lied that he was going to create jobs, right now he is struggling," Maziwisa said, as the delegates attending the discussion went for him saying his party had lied to the voters last year.
During the campaign trail in last years' election, Zanu-PF promised to create over two million jobs in five years, but since the assumption of power, more jobs have been lost as companies were closing down.
Maziwisa said government was not the sole solution to every problem and challenges the country was facing.
"Government cannot solve all of our problems, and to say Zanu-PF did not do anything for the past year is unjust, look at the people who were earning obscene salaries, some were sent on forced leave and others were fired, we are fighting corruption," he said.
"In agriculture, we look at tobacco that surpassed the record mark with over 200 million kilogrammes, we banned the importation of maize, meaning we have surplus while in the health sector our doctors managed to separate the twins."
However, MDC renewal team spokesperson Jacob Mafume and MDC vice president Edwin Mushoriwa differed with Maziwisa saying the economy was still in bad shape.
"This is not an economic crisis but also a leadership and moral crisis, the quick wins are now quick losses, the economy is in a U shaped depression, something must be done as a matter of urgency," Mafume said.
