Harare twins with China's biggest manufacturing provinces

Harare Metropolitan province has entered into a twinning arrangement with one of China's biggest manufacturing provinces, Shandong in a development set to benefit business communities of the two provinces.
A Zimbabwean delegation led by the Harare Metropolitan Provincial Minister, Miriam Chikukwa is set to leave for China to finalise the twinning project.
The twinning programme will result in the exchange of ideas and cooperation in several spheres including economic, educational and cultural initiatives between the two provinces.
In her acceptance speech during the handover ceremony of television sets to the Civil Aviation Authority Of Zimbabwe (CAAZ) for Harare International Airport's VIP lounge, Chikukwa expressed confidence that the twinning programme will benefit business community of the two respective provinces.
"We are grateful for the donation to the Harare International Airport. Let me take this opportunity to inform you that we are working on a twinning programme of our two provinces," she said.
Shandong province, whose gross domestic product (GDP) stood at US$875 billion in 2013, has a GDP per capita of US$ 9117and is rich in petroleum deposits.
Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Lin Lin said his country will continue to partner with Zimbabwe in developmental projects and the successful implementation of economic policies.
"We are ready to continuously partner with the country in uplifting the living standards of the people of Zimbabwe," said Mr Lin.
Commenting on the television sets donation, CAAZ board chairman, Dr Themba Nyoni said the gesture will go a long way in ensuring that the parastatal achieves its mandate of ensuring attractive, safe and secure airports.
Asia's economic powerhouse, China has emerged as a key economic partner for Zimbabwe.
In 2012, the Export-Import Bank of China availed a US$150 million loan facility for the ongoing expansion project at the Victoria Falls International Airport.
