A CHITUNGWIZA woman has told the court that her husband bashed her after she demanded that he should stop having sex with his new wife as the three were sleeping in the same room.
Stephen Samson (32), who resides in Zengeza 5 with is two wives, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Musaiona Shotgame this week facing charges of contravening the Domestic Violence Act.
In his defence outline, Samson said his first wife Mary Zulu (17) was jealous of his new wife and was the one who perpetrated violence on him as she was demanding to also have sex with him.
"She reported the issue out of anger and because she is jealous of my other wife, I never assaulted her with booted feet or clenched fists," Samson said in court.
"I wanted the three of us to share the same bed, but she (Mary) could not hear of it, so I slept on the floor with my second wife and she woke us up saying that I should come sleep on the bed as it was now her time to have sexual intercourse with me."
Prosecutor Wilson Matsika told the court that on August 25 this year at around 0100 hours at the house in Rockview, Zengeza 5, a dispute arose between the accused and his first wife (complainant).
The complainant asked the accused why he was having sex with his second wife, Patience Marufu (17), whilst she was sleeping in the same room. This did not go down well with accused person who then allegedly brutally assaulted the complainant using clenched fists and booted feet on her abdomen and back.
Zulu reported the matter to the police, leading to her husband's arrest.
Magistrate Shotgame remanded the matter to another day for judgment.
