Chipinge to host annual Ndau Festival

HUNDREDS of people from all walks of life in Chipinge will gather at Bangira Village tomorrow (Saturday) to commemorate the much-awaited annual Ndau Festival which aims to preserve and promote the Ndau culture.
The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Arts and Culture, Dr Thokozile Chitepo, will be the guest of honour.
Ndau Festival manager Mr Kusasa said all is set for the fete.
Several cultural groups are expected to showcase their activities that promote the identity of the Chipinge culture.
He said the main thrust of the festival is to remind the people of Chipinge to preserve local culture which is facing onslaught from contemporary forces of cultural imperialism.
"This is an important annual festival in Chipinge which aims to promoting minority groups like Ndau. The main purpose of the festival shall be to celebrate our cultural heritage and indigenous knowledge. During the event we are going to showcase Ndau dances, art and craft, wisdom, literature and other Zimbabwean dances from other cultures.
"Again we have managed to invite various traditional chiefs in the district and take the opportunity to encourage them to urge their subjects to preserve our culture."
Bangira Village is located close to Chikore Mission School under Chief Msikavanhu. The venue is about 45km south-east of Chipinge town.
