ZANU-PF Harare provincial secretary Tawanda Kadengu was last Friday fined $50 or risk a 30-day jail term for bashing a Chitungwiza woman over a $16 debt.

Kadengu, who resides in Zengeza 5, was convicted on his plea of guilty to assault charges when he appeared before magistrate Donald Ndirowei.

Prosecutor Norman Koropi told the court that on October 16 this year, Kadengu confronted the complainant Lorraine Dowe at her workplace at Padombo Sports Bar and asked her for the $16 which she owed his wife.

The court heard that Kadengu lost his temper when the complainant indicated that she did not have the money, and started pelting her with empty beer bottles striking her right cheek in the process.

Members of the public intervened and effected a citizen's arrest on Kadengu, before handing him over to the police.
