Zanu-PF Masvingo interim chairman Paradzai Chakona has scoffed at a statement issued by ousted provincial chairman Calisto Gwanetsa alleging he has been sacked from the party's provincial structures.
This follows a meeting held at the Chiefs Hall in Masvingo which was chaired by the ousted Gwanetsa.
Chakona told the ZBC News that Gwanetsa has no legal mandate to call for a provincial executive committee as a vote of no confidence was passed against him pending deliberations by the Politburo.
The meeting was attended by 26 people.
Addressing his followers, some of whom were singing, dancing and waving placards outside the meeting, Gwanetsa said a vote of no confidence had instead been passed on Chakona, adding that a petition on his ouster had also been prepared with signatures of the present members.
Masvingo Urban member of the National Assembly Daniel Shumba, however, said Gwanetsa assumed power by hook and crook and the people were now tired of being led by retrogressive elements bent on enriching themselves.
Gwanetsa's meeting was attended by women's league chairperson Shylet Uyoyo, youth leader Oliver Huruva, and MPs who included Dr Paul Chimedza, Tongai Muzenda, Davis Marapira, Darlington Chiwa, Masiya, among other members.
On Thursday, 70 members drawn from Masvingo's seven districts passed a vote on no confidence in Cde Gwanetsa.
Gwanetsa was accused of promoting factionalism, gross incompetence and abuse of office.
