BULAWAYO - ZAPU President Dumiso Dabengwa has blasted the MDC Renewal Team led by former MDC-T Secretary General Tendai Biti saying the party was 'dishonesty' partners who negotiated in 'bad faith'.

Addressing at the Bulawayo Press Club today, the former Zipra intelligence supremo accused the MDC-T splinter group of duping Zapu members into joining the movement in the pretext that the two parties had formed a coalition under the MDC Renewal banner.

Dabengwa rubbished recent media reports that his party had joined forces with MDC Renewal and MDC saying those were false reports. ZAPU has in the past been accused of 'delaying' the coalition of democrats but the party insists that it does not want to venture into a premature accord.

"As Zapu we want to put in on record that we are not part of the agreement between MDC Renewal led by Biti and MDC led by Ncube. Any reports of that sort are ill informed and erroneous," Dabengwa said.

"MDC Renewal is a dishonest party negotiating in bad faith. They go around and tell our party structures that we have formed a coalition with them under the MDC Renewal banner, this is false. We did not form any coalition with them and they must not lie to our members used unconcluded talks."

The MDC Renewal which was launched about a month ago has been accused of seeking to capitalize on resignations from other parties mainly MDC-T. The grouping has also been accused of back-biting their would-be partners ZAPU and MDC by luring their members to join them.

Although Dabengwa said his party will not be party of unity talks that would be held at the end of the month, he did not distance ZAPU from any chances of a pact between other democrats.

However, he strongly warned that the grand coalition should not be aimed at regime change or overthrowing the current President as that would undermine the cause of democrats.
