Hundreds of Zanu-PF supporters in Masvingo have demonstrated against Politburo member Dzikamai Mavhaire and the Provincial Minister of State Kudakwashe Bhasikiti demanding that they step down over allegations of plotting to assassinate the party's First Secretary and President Robert Mugabe.
The singing, chanting and placard-waving supporters took to the streets of Masvingo demanding that Mavhaire and Bhasikiti must resign as they belong to a faction that has allegedly been linked to a plot to assassinate President Mugabe.
Mavhaire is also accused of illicit dealings with western-sponsored companies in the names of Tongaat Hulett, Bikita Minerals, Renco Mine among other multinational companies that defied the government policy on community share ownership.
The people further alleged that Mavhaire is not fit to lead in President Mugabe's government and party following his previous call for him to step down.
On the issue of the State Minister, the visibly emotional Zanu-PF supporters decried Bhasikiti's reluctance to facilitate the parcelling out of land in Chiredzi, Mwenezi, and the Save Valley, accusing him of owning vast tracts of land at his Moria farm in Mwenezi at the expense of the generality of people.
Speaker after speaker vented anger at the two senior party members describing them as the twin evil that has torn Zanu-PF apart.
Provincial war veterans chairman Charles Muchena said they had given Mavhaire and Bhasikiti 72 hours to peacefully relinquish their power.
Former Zanu-PF provincial chairman and Gutu Central member of the National Assembly Lovemore Matuke accused Mavhaire, Bhasikiti, Uyoyo, Gwanetsa and Huruva of being traitors who led a movement to dethrone President Mugabe and attempting to block Dr Grace Mugabe's rise.
The demand for the stepping down of Mavhaire and Bhasikiti follow the recent ouster of the provincial chairman Callisto Gwanetsa, the women's league chairperson Shylet Uyoyo and the youth chairperson Oliver Huruva.
