Addressing the 5th day of the Zanu PF congress in Harare on Saturday President Mugabe reportedly chanted "Pasi ne Zanu PF" (down with Zanu PF) before he got promptly corrected and he re-chanted "Pamberi Ne Zanu PF " (Forward with Zanu PF).
It's the second time in a week that the ailing 90 year old has made embarrassing gaffes.
Addressing service chiefs and the new leadership of the war veterans association at the Zanu PF headquarters on Tuesday, Mugabe made another "Freudian slip" of the tongue when he said opposition leader Morgan Tsvangirai had garnered 73 percent of the vote in the 2008 presidential poll.
Before Mugabe could mention his own percentage, dozens of loyalists in the room interjected shouting 47%, 47%, 47%.
Mugabe promptly took the cue and said Tsvangirai had garnered 47 percent while he got 43 percent of the vote.
But by then the damage had already been done.
To many people the 90 year old had gone some way into solving the great mystery of the 2008 poll that saw the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission withhold results for over a month while allegedly doctoring the results to deny Tsvangirai an outright majority to avoid a run-off
Despite his failing health the congress on Saturday effectively endorsed Mugabe to be the Zanu PF presidential candidate in 2018 when he will be 94 years old.
