Zanu-PF to reintroduce Border Gezi youth militia

ZANU-PF has resolved to re-establish the National Youth Service, popularly known as Border Gezi, an ideological school in which participants are likely to be taught party dogma.

As part of the resolutions at the just-ended congress, Zanu-PF secretary for youth affairs Absolom Sikhosana said the youth service should return as a matter of urgency, a move likely to cause consternation as participants have often been accused of unleashing violence and terror.

The Border Gezi youth graduates have been accused of terrorising opposition supporters in the past elections.

"There should be a return of the NYS (National Youth Service) programme," Sikhosana said.

"The NYS programme should be reinstated like yesterday.

"I have a message from the youths who said that I should warn anyone who attempts to do anything to this man," he added, pointing at Mugabe's portrait.

Presenting the new amendments to the Zanu-PF constitution, party secretary for justice Emmerson Mnangagwa said they had lost faith in the department of commissariat.

He said the party had established the Zanu-PF electoral commission to undertake all elections from different structures and it would be appointed by the president.

"We are creating a new commission to deal with elections," he said.

"What has happened in the past by the national commissariat is a thing of the past.

"There will be a Zanu-PF electoral commission appointed by the president.

"It will be responsible for compiling voter registration and not the department of commissariat."

Another notable resolution made at the congress was that the employees and board members of the National Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment Board be expelled and that Zanu-PF cadrés be forwarded to take over.

It was agreed that Zanu-PF cadrés be employed to parastatals and the government.
