A HARARE-BASED war veteran, Cynthia Lindani Maadza, who on Tuesday was remanded in custody over a public violence charge following clashes over ownership of Crowhill Farm in Borrowdale, Harare, was yesterday granted $100 bail together with her co-accused.
Maadza and her five co-accused who are also claiming ownership of part of the farm, are facing charges of assaulting the new land owner Cephas Mandlenkosi Msipa accusing him of destroying her house at the disputed property.
The alleged incident occurred on December 28 last year.
As part of their bail conditions, Maadza (54), and her alleged accomplices Abraham Shonhiwa (31), Jeffrey Chisvo (42), Fraizer Fodha (36), Samuel Makureya (56) and Rosemary Muzopambwa (50), were ordered to report at the nearest police station every Friday, not to interfere with State witnesses and to stay at their given addresses.
Maadza, through her lawyer Advocate Taona Sibanda, was not asked to plead when she appeared before provincial magistrate Milton Serima.
The suspects are alleged to have approached Msipa and his colleagues on December 28 last year, and accused them of demolishing her house at Plot J of Crowhill Farm in Borrowdale.
In the ensuing melee, the acused allegedly turned violent and
indiscriminately attacked the complainants by striking them with logs and hosepipes for close to two hours.
The State also alleges Maadza and her colleagues also stole some cash and mobile phones from the complainants.
The matter was reported to police, leading to their arrest.
