BIKITA West independent legislator Munyaradzi Kereke has consented to pay $2 000 monthly maintenance claim and also to give a Toyota Rav 4 car to a Great Zimbabwe University marketing student he has a four-year-old child with.

The consent order was granted last Thursday by magistrate Dorothy Mwanyisa when the matter, case number M178/14, was set to be heard, but Kereke and the woman, Maud Machangwa, had already agreed to an out-of-court settlement.

The car, according to court papers, automatically becomes Machangwa's upon being handed over to her.

In her application for maintenance, Machangwa claimed she had an affair with Kereke in 2011 that resulted in the birth of the child, but Kereke was neglecting her.

The matter first appeared at the Masvingo Civil Court in December last year before a trial date was set.

Machangwa bargained to have Kereke cater for the upkeep of another child who has a different surname and age from the four-year-old child at the centre of the wrangle, and may not be the legislator's.

Machangwa claims to have one child with Kereke in her affidavit, although the former Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) adviser consented to catering for the upkeep of the other child, which does not seem to be his.

Machangwa broke her maintenance claim down  as follows: Uniforms and toys $300, medical aid for the two children $150, rentals $500, food $300, fees $500, motor vehicle service and fuel $200.

She argued that the Rock Foundation boss had vast business interests across the country and could afford to pay.

Kereke was reportedly given a $1,3 million golden handshake by the central bank upon his exit when he had a fallout with his boss, former RBZ governor Gideon Gono.

He was fired from Zanu-PF for contesting the constituency on the party's ticket, against the preferred candidate Elias Musakwa, also a former RBZ employee, in the previous generalelections.

However, Kereke has sought readmission into the party and the politburo is yet to decide on his application, though it seems he will be taken aboard.
