A Nkulumane woman, 19, landed herself in trouble, after she allegedly faked rape charges against her boyfriend, who had impregnated her, but was refusing to be introduced to her family.
This was revealed in court when the woman, Princess Ncube appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Tancy Chipumha Dube charged with deliberately supplying false information to a public authority, as defined under Section 180 (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.
She admitted to the charge, but, insisted on blaming her boyfriend's' family, which she alleges persuaded her to drop the rape charges.
Ncube was, however, arrested for filing a false rape report after being promised to be taken care of by the boyfriend's family.
"I chose to drop the rape charges after my boyfriend's family approached me and asked to take care of all my needs," she said.
"I went to the police and withdrew the charges, saying he did not rape me. I just wanted to get him to support his unborn baby."
Ncube claimed Ezweni Moyo raped her and when she realised she was pregnant, he disappeared and refused to be responsible for the pregnancy or to be introduced to her family.
She then later reported to the police that she had been raped, but later withdrew the charges after Moyo's family had promised to cater for her and the unborn child if she dropped the charges and conceded she was lying.
Ncube went to the police and filed a report that she lied about the rape and stated that she fell in love with Moyo in 2003 and they slept together several times, leading to her falling pregnant.
She went on to claim that after Moyo refused to be responsible for the pregnancy and to meet her family, she lied to the police to fix him. Little did the woman know she had set a trap for herself when she wrote an affidavit to drop the charges.
