Zanu-PF battle for Kaukonde post begins
11 Feb 2015 at 07:06hrs | Views
Three Zanu-PF candidates have reportedly started canvassing for the post of Mashonaland East provincial chairperson which fell vacant last December after Ray Kaukonde was booted out on allegations of fanning factionalism.
Party insiders yesterday said that interim chairperson Aeneas Chigwedere, his deputy Joel Biggie Matiza and musician-cum-politician Energy Mutodi were eyeing the post.
Zanu-PF national political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere recently announced that a substantive provincial executive would be elected in April.
Those interested in the post have begun to emerge as the election date draws near. So far, Chigwedere, Matiza and Energy Mutodi are the ones who have shown interest in contesting for the post.
The war veterans are also set to present a candidate from their organisation and we are still to get the name.
By the end of this month, we will be looking forward to getting more names of interested partners, a Zanu-PF insider who declined to be named said.
More people will be revealed when they are given the green light to campaign. For now, people are not allowed to campaign, the source said.
Mutodi confirmed his interest in the post.
