An independent candidate contesting in a Chinhoyi by-election has raised a complaint with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) accusing his Zanu-PF rival of bussing potential voters from the town and surrounding farms to register as voters in the contested ward, Ward 15.

Benny Rabi, a former MDC-T councillor who registered as an independent after the opposition party refused to participate in the by-elections slated for this month-end, has accused the Zanu-PF candidate Innocent Mangwanya of stuffing the voters' register with names of people from outside the ward.

Mangwanya yesterday denied the allegations. In a letter to Zec, Rabi claimed that Mangwanya had registered over 300 outsiders as residents of Ward 15 at Shackleton Mine.

The seat fell vacant following the death of Zanu-PF councillor Moffat Munyaradzi in December last year. Voter registration ends today.

A Zec official who only identified himself as E Kusikwenyu confirmed receipt of the complaint.
