Welshman Ncube led MDC National vice chairman Frank Chamunorwa has resigned from the party becoming the second high ranking official to resign from the party in two weeks.
Sources within the party indicate that Chamunorwa resigned from the party claiming to have fell out of favour with party president Professor Ncube. The sources claim that Chamunorwa who is a close ally to resigned former Secretary General Priscilla Misihairabwi Mushonga was part of the group that does not favour Ncube to be president of the new United MDC.
According to the sources, Chamunorwa and two other senior officials in the party, names given, are backing Mushonga to position of Secretary General of the united party which according to agreement shevcan only get if her party does not provide the party president. Information at hand from the party sources says that under the unification agreement the party which provides the president can not provide the Secretary General position which Mushonga so much wants even if it means turning her back to long time colleague Professor Ncube.
The agreement also stipulates that the party which provides Secretary General will also provide the National Vice Chairman, Spokesperson and Organising Secretary which the three senior MDC officials want and can only get by making sure Professor Ncube does not become President. So bad has the war for positions against Ncube gone to an extent that sources in the party claim that the party is bound to split as it moves into the unification with the MDC Renewal.
The party sources claim that MDC Renewal presidential aspirant Tendai Biti is out in full force financing the agenda in the MDC to stop Ncube from being united party president. Meanwhile on the other side information within the MDC Renewal claims that members of the Renewal team are failing to come up with a presidential candidate from their side forcing them to rather back Ncube who they see as an independent. The sources in the MDC also claim that Mushonga is not a favourite amongst the MDC Renewal which turned home to most former MDC members who left the party out of favour with Mushonga. The sources claim that Mushonga's efforts will after all fail as Ncube looks well positioned to lead the new party.
