Zapu has threatened telecommunications giant Econet with court action for blocking its Ecocash Biller account.
According to documents in possession of this newspaper, the party approached Econet Wireless offices in Bulawayo last April with the intention of opening an Ecocash account into which party members and well- wishers could put money to buy a vehicle for the party.
They ended up opening an Ecocash Biller account (Code 58406) after being convinced than the facility was a better option.
Party members, including those from the diaspora, started putting money into the account but after a few days it was closed. Several attempts to seek audience with the company's management over the issue have been all been in vain, prompting the party to seek legal advice to recover the money.
Vuyile Mpofu of Marondedze, Mukuku and partners said the law firm had given Econet Wireless up to the end of next week to respond, failing which legal proceedings will instituted against the company. Repeated efforts to get a comment from Econet Corporate Affairs manager, one Myers, were in vain as her number was continuously unreachable.
