ZANU-PF supporters in Mutare last Saturday staged a peaceful march in the city to express their gratitude over the Politburo decision to fire disgraced former secretary for administration Mr Didymus Mutasa.

The placard-waving supporters marched from the flyover along Herbert Chitepo Street to Meikles Park where they were later addressed by the acting Manicaland provincial chairman, Dr Samuel Undenge.

Similar marches were held in other districts across the province.

Some of the placards read: "Mupanduki Didymus Mutasa Chera Mwena Nguva Yakwana; Zanu-PF Chiororo, Pasi NaDidmas Nowero Mutasa and Thank You Politburo For Removing D. N. Mutasa."

Addressing the supporters, Dr Undenge hailed the Politburo decision to show Mr Mutasa the exit door.

"It is you the people of Manicaland who recommended the ouster of Mutasa from the party as well as recalling him as the legislator for Headlands because he has proved to be a rogue element.

"As your chairman, I forwarded your recommendations to the Politburo which deliberated over the issue on Wednesday and came up with the decision to fire him, which we are all celebrating today. I want to thank the Politburo for this decision because rogue elements have no room in our party," said Dr Undenge.

He reminded everyone gathered that there was one centre of power in Zanu-PF which is President Mugabe.

"We have one leader in President Mugabe and we should all rally behind him," said Dr Undenge.

Mr Mutasa was expelled together with his nephew, Mr Temba Mliswa, last Wednesday on various charges, including undermining the party and its leadership.

Mr Mutasa was part of the cabal led by former Vice-President Dr Joice Mujuru, accused of plotting to unseat or assassinate President Mugabe.

Mr Mutasa has also threatened to take his case to the courts.
