ABOUT 50 Zanu-PF youths from Hurungwe West were on Friday turned back on their way to Victoria Falls to attend President Robert Mugabe birthday celebrations.
According to The Standard, the youths, who were travelling in two 35-seater buses, were stopped in Chinhoyi and their drivers ordered to proceed to Chinhoyi police where the youths were subjected to humiliating body searches.
After the screening all those from Hurungwe West were detained for hours as they went through the same process. They were later released without the hired buses, leaving them to make a long trip back home in the night.
Police sources said they had been tipped that the youths were going to protest the expulsion of Mliswa from Zanu-PF party and embarrass Mugabe at his birthday celebrations.
Hurungwe West is represented in parliament by former Zanu-PF provincial chairman and expelled member Temba Mliswa.
