Zanu-PF's Chigumba in court over $160 000 fraud case

Chitungwiza North MP Christopher Chigumba yesterday appeared in court on summons following allegations that he defrauded the Agriculture ministry of $157 000.
Although the offence was allegedly committed before the introduction of the multiple-currency system and the money involved was Z$6 million it was converted according to a Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe rates confirmation certificate for court purposes.
According to the certificate, as at January 17 2000, US$1 was equivalent to Z$38.15. Chigumba is being charged together with his company Chigumba Holdings Limited.
The State which is the complainant in the matter, is being represented in court by Lands and Rural Resettlement secretary Sophia Tsvakwi.
