Zanu-PF youths yesterday besieged Mutare Central Police Station demonstrating against the detention of one of their leaders.
Getrude Mutandi, who is the Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial youth secretary for finance, was arrested by police on Thursday night on allegations of operating her bottle store after hours.
Police raided the bottle store and rounded up revellers who were drinking beer including Mutandi, alleging that the bottle store had no licence to operate after stipulated hours.
She was released around 1500hrs without any charge following the intervention of politburo member Oppah Muchinguri who allegedly ordered her release.
Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Mandi Chimene also allegedly played a role by ordering the release of Mutandi.
The youths, who were more than 50, camped outside the police station demanding the release of Mutandi.
