ZUJ to petition Econet on blatant abuse of journalists
27 Mar 2015 at 11:43hrs | Views
Journalists have today disrupted and walked out of a Press Conference organised by Econet Wireless subsidiary Steward Bank, in protest over a raid on a business agency, The Source.
Econet raided The Source yesterday in a bid to retrieve the sources of information used in writing the operations of Steward Bank.
The Zimbabwe Union of Journalists (ZUJ) Secretary General, Foster Dongozi said that the protest was in solidarity with media practitioners at The Source and was a clear message to everyone that press freedom violations will not be tolerated.
"Our message to Econet was clear," said Dongozi.
"We demanded that Econet concedes that their actions were a violation of Press freedom and to unreservedly apologize for this before any further interaction."
"We are going to handover to Econet a formal complaint and petition against this blatant abuse of journalists and the media," he said.
