Mixed reaction over Zanu PF split
07 Apr 2015 at 07:07hrs | Views
Social commentators have expressed mixed feelings over the alleged split of Zanu PF with the group led by former Vice President Joice Mujuru reportedly to have formed their own splinter party called the original Zanu PF with its slogan as "people first".
Some commentators rubbished the claims while some said by so doing Mujuru and her group were digging their own graves and some said the group would not make any change as it is composed of people who have been doing what the party is doing to the people when they were still enjoying leadership with President Robert Mugabe.
Clement Mhlanga said there is nothing and no one would stop the disgruntled former Zanu PF leadership from forming a party that would use Zanu PF as a name.
"Mugabe shot himself in the foot," said Mhlanga. "For starters Mai Mujuru got no history of violence in the free Zimbabwe. She is on record denouncing violence. Cde (Didymas) Mutasa has seen the light. If this formation goes ahead, It will wrestle power from Mugabe and his cabal of Mnangagwa and Kasukuwere."
He said Mai Mujuru appeals to a lot of sober minded Zimbabweans including the general Zanu PF membership.
"If out of 10 provinces 9 chairmen were suspended for being Pro Mujuru it says a lot about her grassroots support," he said. "She will tore in MDC formations and ZAPU. Just like her husband they are loved by Zimbabweans something Mnangagwa lacks. Why did Mugabe amend the Zanu PF constitution towards December congress and working in cahoots with Mnangagwa to remove Amai Mujuru?
"They knew that she would have had a complete white wash on the ballot. This is setting Zimbabwe on a true democratic transition because the Mujuru formation will counter any violence that the Mugabe formation may want to throw at them."
He said for once he is now interested in the politics of Zimbabwe and his gut feeling can say Amai Mujuru will be the next democratically elected Zimbabwean first female President.
" Cde. Rugare Gumbo and other Stalwarts still command respect from Zimbabweans," said Mhlanga. "Our country deserves better in terms of the economy and politics. Now let's work on electoral reforms and create a level playing field and yes a General election after that whose result everyone can accept will set us on the path of recovery as a nation."
Douglas Mhizha-Shayanewako had a varying view as he said, "They are digging their own graves I say. They should think of a name for their disgruntled project."
Revesayi Mutede Makubalo said the greatest weakness for President Mugabe was failure to nominate a successor and this is going to haunt him until he retires.
"We are going through a learning curve," he said.
Danisa Tshawe LamaTshawe said as much as he would love to see the back of Zanu, this is just a distraction that will only eat from MDC base.
Aaron Mbudzilettes Chingwe said how can ZANU PF splits into two distinct formations when the people who are not members of the party formed their own party?
He said they must form their party promptly because he does not want to see Mutasa and Mliswa being beaten as independent candidates.
Mandiwisa Jonas Musara said as a point of Fact: there is only one ZANU PF led by His Excellency, Cde R.G Mugabe..
"Any claim that there is another ZANU PF is mere wishful thinking and the media as usual is misleading gullible elements and raising their hopes in vain," he said.
He also said the successor to Mugabe is named by ZANU PF when a vacancy arises not by Mugabe. "Please get the facts right," he said. "Read the new Constitution of Zimbabwe and the new Constitution of Zanu PF and maybe you can know that the President has not failed to name a successor."
"Right now, there is no vacancy in the office of Zanu PF President and First Secretary and in the Office of Zimbabwe President-simply because Cde Mugabe is still effectively in charge and also because Cde Mugabe still commands the most support within ZANU PF, within Zimbabwe, within Africa and the rest of the developing world. He is still the most supported black leader of all time- the black leader commanding majority support at home and abroad."
He said gamatoc group is the only that has vacancy and they were failing to fill the position.
Alex Ngwena said Gamatoxies were desperately acting as they are not pretending to be people first yet they all along been acting in cahoots with Mugabe to stifle people's freedoms.
Charles Makoni said Mutasa is unashamedly behaving like a child and must not be taken serious.
Bornfree Kurauone said he was happy that the group knows all the tricks of Zanu PF and he awaits to see where the squabbles will take the party to.
Sabelo Phumlani Khumalo questioned why would people think a 90+ plus great great grand pa can do in such an issue.
"There are some people who are using his reputation (though unsound) for their political gain," he said. "The old man is done with politics. He is not mentally active in whatever is happening. So it was a question of time bomb. President messed up but whatever is happening now is done by other people for their political future."
Jonathan Chando said there was nothing is amiss here.
"Whether it's true for now or not, it was bound to happen due to the recklessness of your perceived colleagues. You cannot purge a people and expect the system to remain unshaken," he said. "Such kind of recklessness is a recipe for ignominious turbulence within a system."
But Owen Truter said the composition of leadership leaves a lot to be desired.
"None of them are clean, Mutasa, Gumbo, Sibanda there is no problem in dealing with them. Once Zanu PF always Zanu PF. These people never denounced abductions and subsequent deaths in2008 and throughout history. They are only becoming vocal now after expulsions. These are people who still want power like before. They can't accept the fact that they have become nobody's overnight. Strongly disapprove of their party. Its name is still the same and initials much the same."
