Zanu-PF heavies fall in primary elections

Zanu-PF heavy weights who were bidding to make a comeback into mainstream politics were left licking their wounds after suffering defeats in the party's primary elections held at the weekend.
Among the bigwigs hoping to bounce into active politics were businessman and central committee members- Oliver Chidawu, former boxing promoter Stalin Mau Mau and Justice Zvandasara- came out unstuck on Saturday.
The outcome was a blend of youths and veteran politicians who had not made the grade in previous elections.
Chidawu, who once represented Kambuzuma failed in his bid to return to that constituency after he was humbled by youthful Tinashe Maduza who now stands to represent Zanu-PF in the by-elections slated for June.
Mau Mau and Zvandasara were put in the shade by Terrence Mukupe in the Harare East primary election.
Mukupe pulled a shocker following a spirited campaign against his involvement which was in doubt until a few days before Saturday.
Other Zanu-PF primary elections winners include Omega Hungwe, Psychology Maziwisa, Muduza and Betty Kaseke who secured their passage to represent the party in the June by-election.
