President Robert Mugabe has reportedly refused to be dragged into petty constituency fights rocking Harare East after the party fielded two candidates in one constituency for the June 10 by elections.
Addressing a rally in Harare East, Tafara councillor and Zanu-PF district chairman Luckmore Mandava said deputy national political commissar Omega Hungwe requested to have Terence Mukupe withdrawn from the race in favour of Mavis Gumbo.
Mandava said Mugabe refused to entertain her saying those are petty cell matters which should be dealt with by commissariat department.
Former aspiring candidate for the same seat Stalin Mau Mau who has since backed Gumbo ahead of Terrence Mukupe said he is fully behind the candidature of Gumbo and called on the electorate to vote her into office.
Harare province youth chairperson Godwin Gomwe said Mukupe who is battling for the same seat with Gumbo is a person who has no proven track record in the party.
Come June 10, the by-election for Harare East will be on where people will choose their preferred candidate to take their issues to the august house until 2018.
Addressing hundreds of party supporters in Caledonia at her star rally which was attended by a high powered delegation from Harare province, Gumbo said she will do all in her power to ensure unemployed youths in the constituency benefit through development programmes.
