Zanu-PF stalwarts in Mashonaland East province are reportedly pushing for the inclusion of lawyer Jonathan Samukange in the new provincial executive committee.

Samukange, who recently re-joined Zanu PF after winning parliamentary elections for Mudzi South constituency in 2013 as an independent candidate, is being tipped for the secretary for legal affairs post.

A top party official who refused to be named told NewsDay yesterday that they were confident that Samukange would land the post.

The party wants Samukange to be part of the new executive and he will occupy the legal affairs secretary post.

"There have been reports that he might be interested in other bigger posts, but for now he is the suitable candidate for that position," the source said.

Samukange could neither deny nor confirm his interest saying: "Zanu-PF has never had a proper legal affairs secretary for the past 20 years and he wouldn't mind if the offer comes."

He is not fighting or competing for any post, but if offered an opportunity he will take it. His priority is his constituency.

He is a professional lawyer and competing for the position will be a burden on him and will mean he will be having many responsibilities.
