Scores of people in Harare East constituency have demonstrated against the directive by Zanu-PF to have Mavis Gumbo step down from the June 10 by-election to pave way for Terence Mukupe

Scores of Zanu-PF supporters demonstrating in Harare told reporters that they are not in agreement with the party position endorsing Mukupe at the expense of Gumbo.

The supporters voiced their discontent saying Gumbo's track record in the constituency since 2008 is the main reason why they will not lend their support to Mukupe.

In response, Zanu-PF Harare Provincial Chairperson, Godwills Masimirembwa said the province will meet tomorrow and bring the two candidates together to iron out their differences.

Gumbo has already agreed to comply with a party directive to stand down from the Harare East by election, while Mukupe said there is no bad blood between him and Gumbo.

The two candidates were both set to contest in the June 10 by-elections on a Zanu-PF ticket but the party had to intervene, saying Mukupe who won the primary elections should represent contest.
