Political commentator and media scholar Pedzisai Ruhanya has warned former vice president Joice Mujuru to stop misleading the people by purporting to apologise for being party of Zanu PF misrule for the past 34 years indicating that if she had not been chucked out of government and the party she would not have apologised.
Ruhanya said Mujuru was party of the government which tormented the people for so long and her apology was just because she had failed to gain any position during the December 2014 congress of Zanu PF.
"Don't mislead people," said Ruhanya.
"YOU ARE TAINTED.You wine and dine with the devil for 35 years then you come out after being expelled and say sorry. Suppose you had prevailed at the sham Dec 2014 Congress, would you have said this?Your 'sorry' is not genuine; why at this moment? Simply because you want power, you then give us a fake sorry. But, you could have some followers as I see that the usual naive suspects in the 'money bag' community who misjudged and misled us in 2008 and some opportunists around are buying your trash! The gullible suspects are the same and tragically they learn through costly mistakes always."
But Alphonse Panganai said was it not possible for a politician to have nine lives like a cat?
"Is it not possible to really change politically after you are at the bottom? Most people change when they reach rock bottom. Put a person in prison , If one gets a fatal disease , if one gets divorced , if one gets really born again etc , they can change. Right priorities will come out and they can be straight again ," said Panganai.
"I can think of the Apostle Paul at one good end and Professor Jonathan Moyo at the other bad end as examples! Any more examples? However we have to watch them closely , test their new status and give them time and not rush to embrace their new philosophy. Reconciliation does not mean restoration though we can relate again. You have to give them time. People are cunning. Motives drives African politics."
Kuda Musere said Mujuru is Zanu she must not deceive people. "If she had done like Simba Makoni and Dumiso Dabengwa who left when they saw that all was not well in the party or because of their beliefs it would be better. The problem with Zimbabweans is we complicate life!!Life should be simple !!it should be about voting for people who will facilitate or make sure that we put food on the table for our children!!these imperialism theories will not. deliver that!!let's wake up and build our nation."
Brighton Mutebuka said he accept Mujuru is tainted.
"In fact, virtually every politician in Zimbabwe is. And yes, its highly unlikely that she would have apologised had she prevailed. But isn't it better to take a long term view about it? i.e. if she helps to create a new order would that not be beneficial to Zimbabwe's long term interests?," he said.
"At the moment the MDCs are as further away from assuming power as they can be. Even at their highest, they have always struggled to assume political power. It's too early, but I think this dimension - i.e. fragments / offshoots of Zanu PF present an opportunity for reform as their 'inside knowledge and assets' could help dismantle aspects of the current regime's power blocks."
Mujuru wrote a long statement apologising to Zimbabweans over her participation in a government of Zanu PF since 1980. President Robert Mugabe's government is accused of running down the country's economy and human rights violations.
