MDC condemns Supreme Court landmark ruling

Opposition MDC has condemned the recent Supreme Court landmark judgment that granted employers the right to terminate employment on three months' notice and without provision for retrenchment packages.

In a statement, the party's secretary for labour and social welfare Tobias Mudzimurema said Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku's landmark ruling last Friday was based on a flawed Labour Act, and was subject to abuse by employers.

Mudzimurema said there was urgent need to speed up the ongoing reforms to the Labour Act as it promoted unfair labour practices and threatened employees' job security.
