Windfall for Zanu-PF, MDC-T

Following the general election held in 2013, Zanu-PF and MDC-T were entitled to receive funds from treasury under the Political Parties Finance Act.

However due to budgetary constraints the two political parties had not yet received the funds. Under the Act, a political party that secures at least five percent of the total votes cast is entitled to receive funding from government.

 Zanu-PF was entitled to receive $2.3million while MDC-T was eligible to receive $700,000.

Following an outcry from both political parties, Treasury has had to scrounge for financial resources to pay the two political parties.

MDC-T confirmed receiving payment for 2015, but was still to receive funding for 2014. Zanu-PF could neither deny nor confirm that the party had received its share of the funding.
