Zanu-PF MP for Muzarabani South, Christopher Chitindi, has been booted out of the Mashonaland Central provincial executive on allegations of fanning factionalism in President Robert Mugabe's fractious party.

Chitindi's name has been associated with the Joice Mujuru camp.

The Zanu-PF Mashonaland Central provincial coordinating committee (PCC) first recommended his suspension last year, but he was finally expelled this week after noting he was "unrepentant."

Dickson Mafios, the ruling party's Mashonaland Central chairperson, confirmed Chitindi's expulsion.

"We have not finished with what we are doing so I cannot tell you much now. Once we are done, we will let you know by way of a public statement," Mafios said.

A provincial member told the Daily News: "He is now a card-carrying member after a PCC meeting recommended last weekend that he relinquishes his post as secretary for administration because they suspect he is sabotaging national commissar (Saviour) Kasukuwere.

"He was shocked because he thought he had survived the axe after he was spared when Mujuru's allies were purged."

The source added: "The truth is that Kasukuwere does not trust Chitindi and he has ordered his brother (Mafios) to find ways to get him out of the party structures.

"They suspect that he is still working with Mujuru because some who used to support her have since joined his camp."
