Mugabe attacked over further bloating cabinet

MDC National Spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi has said President Robert Mugabe's latest Cabinet appointments in which he added an astounding 14 cabinet ministers to an already bloated cabinet, is sickening and a slap in the face of ordinary Zimbabweans who are already living in abject poverty as a result of the decaying economic conditions which the Zanu PF government masterminded.
"To us as MDC, these appointments are all about President Mugabe's attempts to repay political debts and trying to hold together a fast fracturing Zanu PF, at a huge cost on the rest of the Zimbabwean population," he said in statement.
"What Zimbabwe needs right now is a lean and effective cabinet and parliament with capacity and will to spearhead the country into economic restoration and development."
Chihwayi said it is shocking that at a time when the unemployment rate is soaring above 90 per cent and government is failing to adequately pay civil servants and threatening to retrench a sizable portion to try and cut on government expenditure, President Mugabe elects to multiply his cabinet and reward his friends and allies with cushy jobs with cushy benefits which will cost the ordinary people millions of dollars.
"President Mugabe is playing a very dangerous game on Zimbabweans and everyone who loves Zimbabwe must rise to condemn him. It is unacceptable that he hands out cabinet posts as if he is handing out sweets to his friends when government claims it has no money. His actions are a further manifestation of a government being run by a corrupt cartel using state power to enrich themselves and their cronies," he said.
