OPPOSITION MDC urged Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko who has stayed at a five star hotel in Harare 'including grandchildren' to apologies to the nation and check out of the hotel.

Mphoko checked in at Rainbow Towers Hotel  last December.

Government has splashed more than  $120 000 for his stay.

MDC National Spokesperson Kurauone Chihwayi said the vice president  has ‘no trace of shame' and is plundering public funds.

"If he has any shred of decency VP Mphoko will do the honorable thing and apologise to the nation, check out of the hotel and find cheaper and more stable accommodation.

"He and his wife cannot continue to act like divas using funds meant to benefit the entire nation. Mphoko needs to be reminded that he is public servant and he should put the needs of the nation ahead of obscene luxury at the tax payer's expense".

"That the Vice President can stay at a luxury hotel for more than 287 days with no trace of shame is clear indication that the government is a monster of insensitivity to the plight of the suffering millions".

Chihwayi added "You cannot end poverty by running up a $120 000 hotel bill when more affordable and stable accommodation can be secured. What VP Mphoko is doing is shameful and he must be told so in clear terms.

Early this year Mphoko secured a property in the posh Gunhill suburb in Harare amid reports however that neighbours are being forced to move to enhance his security.

That was after her Mozambiquean   wife- Laurinda reportedly rejected three houses, among them a $3 million mansion in the leafy suburb of Ballantyne Park, because "it is too small for a person of the VP's stature".

Mphoko is also said to have rejected properties that were formerly occupied by late Vice-Presidents Joshua Nkomo and Joseph Msika in Harare's affluent suburb of Mandara on the grounds that they wanted a new house of their own.

Mphoko checked into the executive suite on December 14, 2014, and has remained there, costing government at least $120 000 on bed and breakfast as of today.

Lunch and dinner cost $15 each and Mphoko is reportedly staying with his grandchild in the suite, which significantly increase the cost.
