Air Zimbabwe board given a lifeline for incompetence

The government has extended the Jonathan Kadzura led Air Zimbabwe board's tenure by six months after the Board of Directors' term expired on the 7th of August this year.
According to information from the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Infrastructure Development, the Air Zimbabwe board was given a six months life-line at the helm of the troubled national airline.
In a telephone interview with, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Communication and Infrastructure Development, Mr Patson Mbiriri confirmed that the shareholder through the responsible ministry has resolved to allow the Kadzura-led board to continue operating till February next year.
Contacted for comment, Air Zimbabwe board Chairperson, Mr Jonathan Kadzura refused to comment on the development referring the news crew to the responsible minister.
Observers and economic analysts have however raised concern over corporate governance deficiency at the parastatal, citing lack of clarity on the role and functions of the board, shareholder and the management, something that they say has contributed to the demise of the airline.
Meanwhile, information gathered suggests that there was formal communication to the board regarding the extension of the term.
Some of the members of the current board include, Mrs Judith Madzorera, Mrs Thandiwe Mlobane, Dr Tendai Mahachi, Dr Maxwell Hove, Mr Godfrey Pasipanodya and Mrs Netsai Matienga.
