Zanu-PF chaos disrupts govt

Power struggles between the ruling party and the State have played havoc with government business and need to be addressed, President Robert Mugabe's spokesperson George Charamba admitted at the weekend.

Analysts said with Zanu-PF virtually at war with itself, as the battle to succeed Mugabe hots up, the conflation between the two centres of power has resulted in government business coming to virtual standstill.

While President Robert Mugabe and wife Grace have admitted that Zanu-PF is rocked by factionalism, his spokesperson George Charamba is singing his own bizarre tune contradicting the 91 year old strongman's views on the state of the ruling party.

Over the weekend, Charamba suggested that the only issue emanating from Zanu-PF is a clash of personalities and contestation of posts rather than factionalism.

Charamba also said that there was no need for Grace to fight for power as she was already the centre of power in Zanu-PF by virtue of being the president's wife.

He also blamed the private media for fanning factionalism.

Charamba said President Mugabe is not worried about the fictitious framing of factions in Zanu-PF by private media as he works well with both Vice Presidents.

He went on to warn the private media that since they are turning themselves into infrastructure for the opposition, they should not cry foul when the hammer falls.

Charamba said Mugabe is not even worried about those reports but is actually irritated.
